My Favorite Petite Brands

IMG_9587

I’m not short, I’m fun sized! Who’s with me?! As a petite gal I’ve always loved finding brands that offer a petite collection. Growing up I’ve tried so many brands that claimed their size S fits like an XS… they sadly did not. I’ve also bought size XS from a few brands that clearly wasn’t supposed to be labeled as an XS. As a petite pretty much my entire life, it’s been hard to find the best fit. I can’t do most maxi dresses or skirts, unless they’re a certain length and fit like a bodycon. I have a small waist with curvy hips, so it’s really important for me to understand my body/shape. Dresses, pants, skirts they all need to be a certain structure for me. A trip to your tailor obviously helps a lot, but can be costly. So I’ll be sharing below some of my favorite brands that offer petite sizing.

The best tips I can give is to do your research. Read reviews on sizing for the brands you’re interested in. See if they offer a petite collection, because those are better suited for people 5’3 and under. Another great tip is to know your body shape and what can best accent it. Express yourself through your fashion and body! Definitely have fun with it and do you. Just a couple days ago, someone asked me if there’s any bad fashion things to avoid. I thought about it for a second and said “no.” Fashion is your own expression of who you are, and your personality. It’s all about you! Never try to be like someone else. I have always gone by that rule. I wear what I like because it’s MY body and MY style. I’m not dressing up for anyone else. I dress up to brighten up my mood, and express my style. So have fun, and be you.

Hair Masks and Tips for Dry, Colored Hair

bananamask

The Body Shop- Banana Truly Nourishing

Where are all my color treated hair followers at?  You’re not alone, although years ago I thought I was! After a lot of research and trial and error with soooo many products I finally found what works for me. Yay! I’m going to be sharing a few of my favorite products that I have used and seen results. These products are great for color treated hair, and for non colored but dry hair too!

One of my all time favorite hair masks I always use is the Banana Truly Nourishing hair mask from The Body Shop. I absolutely love the smell and the texture of my hair after each use. It smells like, you guessed it bananas!! It has a blend of community trade natural and organic ingredients. It’s made from banana puree from Ecuador and brazil nut oil from Peru! This is 100% vegan, and a once a week treatment, but I use it minimum 2-3 times. It really helped my dry, damaged, overly colored hair lock in moisture and get that shine back. I currently have blonde hair, it’s not my real hair color, shocker! I’m naturally a very dark brown so getting my hair this light definitely took time, and a lot of TLC. I use hair masks at least 2-3 times per week, along with argan oil and coconut oil mists daily. Having blonde hair takes a lot of work to keep it healthy and hydrated. I have noticed such a big difference in my hair ever since I started using these products.

The Body Shop also has the shampoo & conditioner of this line, it smells amazingggg! The natural ingredients of this line is also what really made me comfortable to use on my colored hair. Since I have color treated hair, I’m always looking into ingredients to make sure it’s sulfate free and no harsh chemicals. Not only does that help with the health of your hair, it helps keep your color more fresh. I literally go bananas over these products, and the hubby really loves the smell too! I use themask anywhere from 20 minutes to 1-2 hours! I will leave it on and go on with my work and to do’s at home. The longer the better, so that your hair can actually soak in all the amazing  ingredients! It’s $18 and you can find it here!  The Shampoo and Conditioners come in a few different sizes, check them out here! The Body Shop has some great sales throughout the year, so look out for those deals!

The Body Shop- Rainforest Nutrition Hair Butter

Another great item from the Body Shop is their Rainforest hair butter. This is a deep conditioning, and luxurious moisture butter. It leaves my hair feeling so soft and I can easily brush through my hair after each use. No tangles! The scent of it is a very light and fresh scent inspired by the rainforest. It’s great for dry hair, or if you have dry ends. It contains community trade honey from Ethipoia and olive oil from Italy! Honey & olive oil are two amazing ingredients for dry hair! You can even make your own natural DIY mask at home. Maybe that’ll be another post? I have a lot to share on hair!

Another great fact for this product is that it is silicone, paraben and colorant free! My hair was screaming YAY when I first saw this. A helpful tip: I actually will use this on my ends when I do my banana hair mask. It’s called a hair butter but it’s a hair mask. It says to leave it on for 5 minutes and the wash it out with warm water. I’ll leave it on anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. The butter is $14, you can shop it here!

arganoilmask

HASK-ARGAN OIL MASK

Do you know about argan oil? Do you use it? Argan oil is so good for nourishing dry, damaged hair. Coconut oil is amazing too but I have heard that for blonde hair it will slightly darken and change your color. Since my color is very important to me, I use Argan oil and it’s been doing wonders for me. Hask Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Treatment also contains Keratin. Keratin is a super strengthening, and hydrating treatment. It will restore and smooth dry, damaged, and chemically treated or over processed hair. Argan oil is amazing because your hair can easily absorb it and it will intensely hydrate your hair. The oil adds so much moisture and will bring those gorgeous locks back to life! Shop the hair mask here.

Their shampoo and conditioner is a really great set to use along with the hair mask. This whole collection is sulfate and paraben free. I found a really good deal on Amazon for the shampoo and conditioner set. Only $13! Shop it here!

I hope this post helped you if you’re looking into some amazing products for dry, damaged hair. These products really helped me get my hair shiny and healthy again after getting it bleached and colored. I used these products for at least 2 months and it took some time to see a big difference. Remember that everyone has different hair. Your color, texture, genes, treatments, all are different. My best advice is try a couple different products and give it at least 1-2 months to see great results. I always love to find more affordable options that don’t break the bank. I always keep this in mind- Just because it’s more expensive or has a big brand name on it, doesn’t mean it’s always better.  Here’s to healthy and happy hair in 2019!

Milano Fashion Week- VERSACE

IMG_4844

Ahh Milan, the city that’s recognized as the world’s biggest fashion capital, and the design capital. It’s not just Italy’s second most populous city, it’s where fashion lives and breathes. Milan FW brings in one of the highest revenue, and visitors each year!

With that being said, you best believe the designers stepped up their game for each and every show. Milan’s fashion week was from September 18th through the 24th. I’m focusing this post on Versace and all their incredible designs for SS19. I loved seeing so many vibrant colors and patterns mixed together. Some pieces are so retro and have huge throwback looks. Everything is coming back from the 70s, 80s, 90s, but with new twists. I’ve compiled some of the s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g designs from Versace and hope you enjoy all this glorious eye candy!

I’m obsessed with the gorgeous jewelry & handbags! Leave me a comment on what’s your favorite piece, I’d love to know!

The New Year is here! Welcome 2018!

y7h6jynj

Wow I still can’t really believe we’re here in 2018!! I remember back when it was Summer, and I’d joke with my fiance about “oh there’s 5 months until Christmas, are you ready?!” Now look at us! It’s January 4th and we’re off to a great start. I’ll be writing more on my blog as the time goes by on helpful tips on how to start your year and plan each month accordingly.

If you follow my Instagram, I posted a picture of a quote that one of my favorite bloggers Kait (@kaitness) posted earlier for the new year. I love her mindset and way of encouraging others that what they’re going through is normal and okay. She’s one of the most realistic bloggers out there today and I absolutely love that! Here’s to #transparency!

While 2017 wasn’t fully an amazing year that made me go WOW! It did have some great moments for me and I enjoyed it. I did have struggles, bad days, rough moments that made me question some things in my life, unexpected events, etc. Those not so great moments, although were bad at the time, really helped me grow and transition into who I am today! Those events lead you to feel stronger, and more powerful today. I remember as we were getting closer to new years, so many posts were going up about how 2017 sucked, how it was the worst year, people cussing at it like it was a person… While I do understand that in life we have some pretty unexpected things that get thrown at us, things we can’t fully control. People get fired, sicknesses arise out of the blue, money becomes tight, breakups happen, family issues, the list can go on sadly. BUT! I believe the year, day, any moment is really what you make out of it. It’s really up to you and how you can transform such a rough time to a beautiful outcome. I’m all about building up others in life, and helping them see the strength and potential in themselves.

Throughout my college years at FIDM, and the 6 years after that in retail and fashion, I saw and met so many different people. Everyone had such different characteristics, and qualities than me and I liked that. I loved meeting new people and getting close as friends to help one another. I met some great co-workers through work whom I loved sharing my low points with to get their advice and vice versa. I enjoyed being a shoulder to lean on and trying to show the strength of that person to them. What happens to us out of the blue sometimes isn’t in our control, but what we do after that is. You can try to be optimistic and turn your life around or just be upset and blame the world for everything. How we react to those situations shows a lot about someone and how they take on their lives. No matter the situation whether it was a breakup, losing your job, a loved one passing away, you can get yourself back up. Some people like to lean on friends and family, some people love to go out and travel to their favorite place of peace and serenity. Some people get a fire burning in them to strike back and try harder, for example losing that job makes someone more hungry to refresh their resume and hit the ground running! You have the power and capability, you just gotta get up and do it!

yes-you-can-motivational-daily-quotes-sayings-pictures

I’ve been through quite a few ups and downs throughout my life, and I know there will be more to come. The thing that always gets me through is being optimistic and having close family and friends to help me along the way. I always try to the see the better side of a crappy situation. The second something goes south, I start brainstorming what can I do to fix this and make it a better outcome? Who can I ask for advice? What’s the right thing to do to turn this around? Optimism has been my best friend ever since I was a kid. I was told no, and “you can’t do this” so many times. The thing that kept me going was the drive in me. I chose to not let any of those people get to me or hold me down. I got so much joy out of showing my doubters that I can and I will accomplish whatever it was at that moment. I still do! Even in your adult years, you will meet people or work with people who will doubt you and say no you can’t do that. For me, that’s the greatest challenge to hear. I get joy to show them what I can do, and how great I will be at it.

You are incredible, smart, strong, beautiful, and worth it. I will be the one to tell you, you CAN do it! You got this. Stay focused, driven, and dedicated and it will come to you. Nothing comes easy, or immediately. Remember that! Here are a few things that can really help boost you up and get you going for 2018.

I hope you enjoyed this post, it’s a bit more of a personal topic but I really wanted to share some of my own experiences and tips with you. Sometimes in the midst of all the craziness we need to stop and smell the roses, no really. Smell them! Be the best version of yourself, be humble, help build others up, and run towards your goals with arms wide open! 2018 is going to be a great one, I know it!

XOXO,

S

Oh hello there!

Hello there loves! Here it is, my own blog with this name that I have spent so much time brainstorming and contemplating. I guess I should start off by introducing myself to you so you can get to know me a bit better. My name is Stephanie, hence why this is the Adventures of S, get it? heh. I’m going to give some fun facts about myself, who I am, what I’ve done and what fun stuff you can expect from me!

I used to blog many years ago, but with a whole different name and story. I used to do a lot of designing and created bracelets/jewelry. So for that I had my own website, blog, Instagram and Twitter pages. It was great and so much fun while I was finishing off fashion school. I went to FIDM here in Los Angeles, and creating jewelry was a fun hobby I enjoyed until after graduation when I went into working retail full-time. I graduated with my degree in Visual Communications, which is my favorite major ever! I learned such a huge variety of skills like graphic design, fashion styling, trend forecasting, window displays, visual merchandising and more! I feel like within those 2 years I literally learned 4 different majors and it was perfect when I went into retail and eventually became a manager of my own store! I LOVED having my own store, my own space where I got to customize and lead my own team. Visual Merchandising was one of my all time favorite things to do, it still is actually. I loved getting in the newest season collections and using style guides to design the floor with everything beautifully merchandised to perfection. Surely soon enough I started working full-time in retail, all day every day. Retail and my job took over my life and any free time I had. I became addicted to learning and growing as a person and a manager.  When I did have a couple of hours after work, all I wanted to do was eat and go to bed. I was exhausted and drained after each day but I felt so good and productive because I knew the things I did that day benefited the store and team.

@Picsmine

So, after taking some time off from all the craziness and closing down my old pages and blog I couldn’t stay away any longer! I have always had a HUGE passion for fashion and the industries’ impact. As a kid I was obsessed with clothes, jewelry, pretty much anything related to fashion. At 5 years old I’d be modifying and creating new clothes for my Barbie’s from extra fabrics and toilet paper. I’d be cutting and coloring their hair in all sorts of funky ways to create looks that I simply had in my mind. My parents told me they already knew by that age what a fashionista I’d grow to be, lol. Sure enough, fashion school was the only choice for me after high school and I had no doubt about it.

@Pinterest

As I continue to grow and write this lovely blog of mine, you’ll get to know me and some of my passions better. I’m so excited for what’s to come and share it with you all! I created my Instagram page before I got the time to round-up my blog so please go ahead and check me out @adventures.of.s I post about my every day adventures whether it’s grabbing my favorite, a cup of coffee, shopping, my ootd, yummy food, and any other fun events that happen in my day-to-day life. So click that awesome blue ‘follow’ button and let’s be friends! I love meeting and connecting with new people, especially friends from the LA area. So don’t be afraid to send me a comment or DM, let’s connect! Have a beautiful day, and if you’re in LA enjoy this cooler-gloomy weather!
